Under the hood, the page uses pdf-lib — an open-source PDF library that runs entirely in the browser. Your line items go into a PDF on your own hardware; the download link points at a file that exists only on your machine. That’s why there’s no upload progress bar: there is no upload. Why invoices deserve a local-only tool
An invoice is a condensed record of your business: who your clients are, what you charge them, how much you make, your bank details. Typed into a conventional online generator, all of it lands on someone else’s server — usually one run by a company whose actual product is the paid plan they’ll email you about. InvoiceLocal keeps the trade simple: the site is static, the PDF is built on your device, drafts stay in your browser’s own storage, and there is no email field anywhere. What your business earns is between you and your clients.

Is this invoice generator really free — no signup, no email?
Yes. No account, no email address, no watermark, no “first three invoices free”. The PDF is built by your own browser on your own device, so serving the page costs us almost nothing — that’s why there’s nothing to charge for and no email to collect. If the site ever carries ads, they’ll sit outside the tool and won’t change any of this.
Where does my invoice data go when I click Download?
Nowhere. The PDF is assembled inside your browser by an open-source library (pdf-lib) and saved straight to your Downloads folder. This site is static — it has no server that could receive your client names, rates or totals. You can verify that in your browser’s DevTools Network tab, or by building an invoice with Wi-Fi switched off.
How is my draft saved, and can anyone else see it?
Drafts live in your browser’s localStorage, on your device only. Reopen the page and your business details, numbering and the current invoice are still there. Clear your browser data and they’re gone — we can’t recover them, because we never had them. On a shared computer, use a private window if you don’t want the draft to persist.
Can I add tax, discounts, or a partial payment?
Yes — a tax line with your own label (Sales tax, VAT, GST…) and rate, a discount as a percentage or fixed amount, and an “amount already paid” field that turns the total into a balance due. The math follows standard invoice convention: the discount is applied first, then tax on the discounted amount.
Which currencies work?
USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, INR, AED and SGD, with correct digit grouping per currency — Indian invoices, for example, group as ₹1,23,456.78. Amounts are purely display: no exchange rates, no payment processing, just your numbers formatted properly.
Is the PDF a real invoice — will clients and accountants accept it?
The PDF carries everything an invoice conventionally needs: your details, the client, a unique invoice number, dates, line items, tax and totals. Legal requirements vary by country (a UK VAT invoice and an Indian GST invoice each have specific required fields — see our scenario pages), so check the rules that apply to you; the builder gives you the fields to satisfy them.
